GEOLOGY AND GEOLOGIC HAZARDS OF THE PROPOSED GOLDEN PEAK RACE TRAINING AREA, VAIL RESORT, SUMMIT COUNTY, COLORADO

This study involved geologic mapping, drilling, geotechnical testing, and limit-equilibrium analysis of the slope stability of the north slope of Golden Peak in the Vail Ski Area. The affected slope displayed a pre-development Factor of Safety of 2.1 and a worst-case, post-development Factor of Safety of 1.3. However, other less stable areas were identified for the Water Management Plan, to avoid directing new runoff to those spots.
